Overview
BioNem-WP and BioSafe are two biological nematicides, based on a patented isolate of the bacteria Bacillus firmus that is supplemented with non-toxic additives.
These bionematicides are intended mainly for controlling the root knot nematode (Meloidogyne spp). They are also effective against the most economically important phytopathogenic nematodes such as Hetrodera spp., Helicotylenchus spp., Hoplolaimus spp., Trichodorus Tylenchulus semipenetrans., Xiphinema index., Ditylenchus dipsaci
BioNem-WP and BioSafe are preferably used before planting but can also be applied during crop growth stages. They are very effective in controlling and reducing the nematode populations and root infestations (galling) prevalent in major vegetable crops such as tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, aubergines, and major herbs. They are also suitable for perennials such as peaches and ornamentals.
Advantages
Both BioNem-WP and BioSafe biological nematicides provide extended periods of nematode control, significantly longer than in the case of chemical nematicides. Their safety in use means that waiting time is not required between application, entry into fields and harvesting.

Field Results and Certification
Field trials were conducted over several growing seasons under commercial conditions, in various crops and under different growing practices. The application of BioNem-WP resulted in a decline of the larval population, leading to a marked reduction in crop damage and thereby to increased yields.
BioNem-WP and BioSafe have been registered as biological nematicides in Israel.
The Israeli registration for BioNem-WP applies to cucumber, eggplant, pepper, tomato, almond, apricot, olive, peach, plum, pomegranate, major herbs flowers and garlic. BioSafe is registered for all organic vegetables crops.
Registration of these products in other countries is at an advanced stage.
Furthermore, research is underway to demonstrate efficacy and obtain registration in a wide range of crops including, banana, potatoes, seed treatment (field crops) turf and ornamentals.
Application
BioNem-WP can be applied through irrigation systems, including drip-lines and sprinklers or by drenching.
