The persistent and growing problems with chemical pesticides are forcing the authorities and farmers to try new and safer pesticides in their efforts to achieve sustainable agriculture.
Consumers are increasingly unwilling to buy food that was treated with chemicals and contains pesticide residues. In a growing number of countries, consumer groups are keenly aware of food safety and actively lobby for such residues to be eliminated from the food chain. This trend fits well with new generations of biological pesticides (bio-nematicides and biofungicides), which are not only effective but also satisfy end user demands.
In order to deliver safer produce to consumers while at the same time protecting their crops against pre-and post-harvest diseases, farmers are now turning to the new generation of biological pesticides.
A viable alternative
These biological products are based on naturally occurring microorganisms that work in tune with nature to control harmful infestations. Used in the correct circumstances and for the right crops, they match the effectiveness of chemical pesticides - without producing the associated damage that accompanies those chemicals. They are a viable and effective alternative.
Prolonged effectiveness and shelf life
Farmers were hesitant about using biological control agents in the past because of their relatively poor shelf life and mild activity. However these limitations have been overcome with the new generations of biological pesticides. Products such as BioNem, BioSafe and SHEMER have a shelf life of over a year and can show good results over a prolonged time. In field trials, BioNem-WP, BioSafe and have been shown to match or exceed chemical pesticides in performance, while having clear safety and environmental advantages.
